The Marin Pirates Swim Team is a year-round USA Swimming Team
that is open to competitive swimmers of any age and skill level.
The Pirates serve all of Marin County with programs in Northern
Marin (at College of Marin’s IVC Campus) and Southern Marin
(at College of Marin’s Kentfield Campus).
During the past 28 years, the Marin Pirates have developed into
a national caliber swim team that is one of the premiere programs
in the San Francisco Bay Area. The team has earned a reputation
for it’s healthy perspective about the value of sports
in the lives of our community’s youngsters. The Marin Pirates
Swim Team offers a proven environment that prepares children and
young adults for success in swimming and in life.

US OLYMPIC TRIALS, BREAKS PACIFIC SWIMMING RECORD IN 50M

RECORDS!
The Junior National
Championship was held on March 18-21 in Orlando, Florida. The
meet attracted over 1,400 of the fastest 18 and under swimmers in
the United States. The Marin Pirates brought 10
swimmers.
The Marin Pirates were led
by Kathryn Murphy’s third place finish in the 50 meter
Freestyle. Murphy’s time of :26.15 qualified her for the
2008 Olympic Trials to be held June 29-July 6 in Omaha,
Nebraska. Her time catapults her to the 46th seeded time out
of 73 current qualifiers for the Trials in the 50 meter
Free. Murphy is the 8th swimmer in Marin Pirate history to
qualify for the Olympic Trials. In addition, her time broke
the Pacific Swimming 15-16 girls 50m Free record previously held by
Brooke Bishop (:26.19, 2003).
In addition, the Pirates broke 3
Pacific Swimming relay records.
15-18 Girl’s 200 m Free
Relay 1:47.41 (Murphy, Alyssa Lo, Ashley Williams, Sabrina
Cochrane). Old record: WCAB 1:49.71-set in
1997. THIS SWIM TOOK 2ND PLACE AT JUNIOR
NATIONALS!
Senior Women’s 200 m Free
Relay 1:47.41 (Murphy, Lo, Williams, Cochrane). Old
record: WCAB 1:49.77-set in 1983
15-16 Girl’s 400 y Medley
Relay 3:53.53 (Cochrane, Liliana Alvarez, Alison Blom,
Murphy). Old record: Terrapins 1:53.95 -set in
2004
Note that the girls broke their
200 Free relay records by over 2 seconds. The previous 15-18
record was 11 years old and the previous Senior record was 25 years
old!
These strong showings
continue a long history of excellence by the Pirates at Junior
Nationals. Over the team’s history, more than 120
swimmers have qualified for this competition, including 2 Pirates
who have won Junior National Championships.
As a team, the ten Pirates
recorded 34 best times out of 40 races at the
meet.
